So you've booked your in-home Christmas Session.

You've planned the outfits, you've put out the decor, and now you're wondering how your photographer is going to make those magical candid moments happen.

Well I am here to share my secrets and tell you the types of activities we will be doing during your session. I promise - they'll come out beautiful!

1. Decorate your Christmas tree.

Seriously, it's the cutest ever. Decorating a tree gives your little ones something interesting to do, and it has the added bonus of twinkling lights.

As a special extra, you can bring out your heirloom ornaments or other decor to include in your Christmas photos. What a great way to incorporate some family history!

2. Make some coffee and cuddle.

Or tea or hot chocolate, whatever makes you feel cozy.

PJs and a mug of something warm can turn the Christmas vibes up to eleven. And don't forget the romance! Pull in your sweetheart and have some Christmas cuddles to produce sweet, unplanned moments between the two of you.

3. Go outside.

Head outside your home! Maybe you have a really cute front porch. Maybe your backyard is the neighborhood winter wonderland. Maybe you have some simple white lights out back.

Whatever it is, the change of scenery can help break any awkwardness or reluctance, especially on the part of your kids.

4. Do a dance!

Yep you heard me! Turn on some music and get those kids wiggling. A dance party is a great way to loosen up and bring out some of those unique relationships between the members of your family.

Bonus points if mom and dad lead the way!

5. Get on the floor and play.

Kids' faces light up when they see their parents wanting to play with them. Play is, in some sense, their love language. So what better way to help them relax and be themselves than to get on the floor and bring out a favorite toy.

To make it seasonal and timeless, grab classic or wooden toys, or even Christmas-themed sets like nativity scenes.
